I May Have A Scrap Problem... But Now A Little Less! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's been a hot minute since I posted about my scrappy endeavors, but since I hadn't had much time to work on anything scrappy, I didn't have anything interest to share.  But today I have a flimsy finished!!

Here's what it looked like Tuesday night when I shared it with my sewing sisters at church. But it was still a hair small for what we needed.

Here's a close-up shot - I took it on an angle and it looks really different here!

I found a beautiful green Modernist print by Joel Dewberry in ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem - But I've Also Got Hexies! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I am over the moon happy to be able to say that I have sewn the final hexie onto my hexie top!!!

If my math is right, there are 1428 hexies in this top, each one hand basted and then sewn together by hand.  This made a relatively good dent in my 2.5" square scrap bin, although I've probably got at least this many left!

Today I went up and dug through my stash, hoping that I would have some of my grandmother's vintage Irish linen left in a color that would work as a ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... But I'm Working On It! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

 Hi, all!

Well, I've been absent from the blog, but I haven't been skipping out on my scrappy sewing - I decided that I could definitely do some hand sewing, so I ordered some hexie templates and dragged out my 2.5" square bins.  Many months later, this is what I have...

I haven't actually measured it yet, but it's a good lap size, plenty big enough to snuggle up on the couch with. I've just got to fill in that top right corner and it will be ready for a border and quilting!  Every stitch ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem.... Some Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, it's Wednesday night, the day before Thanksgiving, and I've been cooking all day.  Didn't think I'd have anything to share today, but as I glanced at Instagram in a down moment, I saw two pictures I just totally fell in love with!  And wonder of wonders, they are both scrappy and therefore perfect to share with you....

This first quilt was made by a local acquaintance who truly loves to make scrap quilts.  If you need inspiration, her Instagram feed is definitely the place to check out!  She calls this her Bitcoin quilt ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem.... Gratitude is Finished! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I am definitely dancing a happy dance right now, because my Gratitude quilt is completely finished!!!

If this is the first time you've seen this quilt, here's a bit of its history.  I read about Amy Smart's Gratitude quilt on her blog (the pattern is free until the end of November!!) and immediately knew I'd need to make one.  Then my husband gave me a bunch of his old shirts to cut up for the fabric, and an idea was born!  So I gathered up a few more shirts and cut away.  Every piece ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem...My Own Take on The Gratitude Quilt from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

While I'm enjoying some fun time in NYC with my husband and oldest granddaughter, I thought I'd share my progress on the Gratitude quilt with you!

The first step was to assemble the center, and I teased with this photo last Friday....

...and then I found a beautiful blue shirt that yielded the strips for the inner border!

On Saturday I played around with the outer border, making use of the leftover strips from my 10" squares in a different way than Amy did.  I think I like the piano key look!  I managed to get ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Progress on Gratitude! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, it's been a busy week, but I'm pleased to say I have made some progress on my Gratitude quilt!  First I cut this huge stack of 10" and 5" squares from my stack of shirts....

...and then I cut a white oxford shirt into 2.5" strips to cut the cross-pieces for the plus blocks.  It's hard to believe, but one XL man's shirt yielded more 2.5" strips than I needed to cut all the strips for 41 blocks!

And then, I even had time to make a couple of blocks just ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... And A New Project! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

If you have seen my blog for the past month or so, you know that I'm working a WIP challenge - so of course I decided to start a new scrappy project!   Last week I shared Amy Smart's pattern Gratitude...

...with the thought that it would make a great scrappy quilt.  Then my husband cleaned some lovely cotton dress shirts out of his closet and said I could have them for my stash if I wanted.  It occurred to me that this would make a good manly quilt made with shirtings!  So I started cutting up those ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem.... But One Less Scrappy WIP! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

One day not too long ago, a kind reader asked if I was ever going to start posting again on Scrappy Wednesdays.  With a request like that, how can I not?  I had stopped for a while because I was so pushed by commission work, I didn't have time to do any scrappy sewing and very little surfing for inspiration.  But it's better now and I promise to be better about posting regularly!

And today I have an actual scrappy finish to share!  First, a little history.  In November 2019, I made this fun quilt using ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... How About Some Scrappy Blocks? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, today I actually worked on something scrappy!  One of our quilt ministry members ended up moving to another state as a result of a COVID-related job loss in her family, and we decided to make a collaboration quilt for her.  I finally picked up all the completed blocks this week and started laying it out on the wall today...

It's certainly going to be an eclectic quilt!  I had to add some strips to some of the blocks to bring them up to size and trim down some others.  All the outer blocks are 12.5 ...

Time For A Little String Therapy! Where's Your Happy Place? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Welcome to another session of String Therapy!  Today we're going to explore that most wonderful of things, your "happy place".

For me, that is most often the beach.  I would rather be at the beach than almost anywhere, and it is our favorite choice for vacation.  Something about the sound of the waves, the warm sun, the laidback-ness of it all - if you ask my husband what time it is when we are at the beach, his response is always "I don't know, and I don't care!"

But for my grandmother, it was her yard ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's been a busy week around here, with not much time for scrap sewing.  With a full roster of t-shirt quilt orders, I'm making hay while the sun shines and knocking them out as quickly as I can!  Today one of my customers sent me a picture of her daughter with her new quilt...

And that's why I love making memory quilts!  It's wonderful to see people react to a tangible, useful recollection of their treasured items.

That being said, I haven't had much time for scrap sewing (although I've been making ...

Our String Therapy Prompt This Week? Find Joy! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Wow, what a week it has been.  Starting Sunday we had ice, freezing rain, sleet, and more ice.  Then snow.  Then more snow - lots more snow! And no sunshine.  Even with all the extra sewing time, it was enough to make one feel blue.  And then Friday, the clouds cleared, the sun came out, and everything started to melt.  Driving around, it was a pleasure to see the ice-covered trees sparkling like diamonds in the sun.  It was a truly joyful sight!

There are so many things that bring us joy, and sometimes the answer to a blue ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... How About A "Little" Inspiration? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's been a busy week here, topped off with lots of ice and a little snow - definitely enough to keep us all at home here in middle Tennessee.  We don't deal well with ice on the roads!  But as that means more time for sewing, I haven't been complaining.  Unfortunately, though, I've been working on commission jobs and haven't had any time to do any scrap sewing. But I have found a "little bit" of inspiration on Instagram to share...

4,340 1.5" finished squares in this scrappy beauty!  Can you imagine ...

This Week's String Therapy? Hugs & Kisses Make It All Better... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's time for this week's therapy session, and I'm definitely feeling the need for a little love this week.  So it's fitting that this Sunday is also Valentine's Day!  What better day to do a little string therapy based on hugs and kisses?

A few months ago, I saw a couple of quilts on Instagram that caught my eye, and I added them to my folder of possibles for String Therapy.  Both were similar in style, with one looking a little more contemporary as far as coloring.

When I got ready to make ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Drowning In T-Shirts? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, I spent the day working on a t-shirt quilt and making one. big. pile. of t-shirt scraps.  Now, you know me and fabric scraps - I just can't bear to throw away usable fabric!   And I'm happy to say that I have a great solution for those t-shirt backs that I want to share with you today.  Because to save them without a purpose would be crazy, wouldn't it?  I posted this originally in 2018 but thought it would be a good time to bring it back for a re-run, since it is t-shirt quilt ...

This Week's String Therapy? How To Be "Mindless" from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, it looks like it's time for another therapy session - if your week has been anything like mine, it's long overdue!  Nothing bad here, just super busy.  And as part of our String Therapy today, I've got a lovely, mindless quilt that will eat up your strings with little concentration on your part - just the ticket!!

Just look at all that mindless scrappy sewing goodness!  And you can make one all for yourself - just go grab that box/tub/pile/mountain of strings and go for it!

Some of you may recognize this quilt as ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... But Here's a Great Solution! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

There has been a serious lack of scrappy sewing around here lately, but it doesn't mean that I'm not looking for future projects!  You may remember the Scrap Mountain quilt and quilt-along that happened last year on Instagram...

Joy Martin at @themakingsofjoy designed this fabulous pattern, and I have to say it is one of the most creatively produced patterns I've ever seen.  It's fun to read and beautiful to look at - not your average pattern!  I can't wait to make my own version (although it ain't gonna happen any time soon ...

Won't You Join Me For A Little String Therapy? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Welcome to this year's tutorial series, String Therapy!  I figure after the year we've had, a little therapy is in order - and what better way than with fabric?  If you're anything like me, you've got tons of string-y scraps - narrow pieces cut off from the edge of quilts, little bits left over after cutting pieces for quilt blocks - and if you're anything like me, you just can't bear to throw away fabric!  (Come on, I know I'm not alone in this!)  So let's take all those pieces, see if we ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... But I Am DEFINITELY Working On It! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, strange times call for drastic actions - and I have been plowing through scraps like crazy!  Since last Wednesday, I completed the blue string top, which I named "Georgia on My Mind"...

...went on to make this top, utilizing some old string blocks that had been gathering dust for way too long....

...and today I finished all the pieces for this string top!  It is totally appalling to me that it only took the contents of one small tub of strings to make this quilt.  How is that possible? At this rate, I will never plow through all ...
